Hi, I’m Dr. Jacy Papasikos, an orthodontist. The question of the day is “Can I whiten my teeth with braces?” This is a common question we get.
The answer is YES and NO.
Ideally, after your teeth are straightened and the braces come off, your dentist can make special whitening trays to whiten your teeth. However, if you’re very anxious about whitening your teeth there are certain products that can be used to whiten your teeth around the braces. The bleaching material which is used to whiten the teeth will have to actually get underneath the braces so it won’t be an issue. Remember if you want professional strength bleaching trays, these can be made after your teeth are straightened and the braces come off. If you want to whiten your teeth while you’re wearing braces, you can use an over-the-counter product like Crest whitestrips or something like this that can work around the braces. Please let me know if you have any other questions and have a great day.
