Using Your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for Orthodontic Care

At Diamond Braces, we encourage you to use your FSA account for orthodontic treatment. If your employer offers you this benefit, please ask us how you can save money in obtaining your perfect smile at Diamond Braces.

Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) are accounts that allow employees to obtain reimbursement for various medical expenses. Because FSAs are classified as tax-exempt savings accounts, no employment or federal income taxes are deducted from contributions. The IRS states that an FSA has no reporting requirements for the purposes of federal tax returns. Distributions are free, provided they are used for qualified medical expenses.

The basic rule is that anything that treats or prevents a dental disease is eligible for FSA coverage. This includes preventative services and orthodontic treatment as well, if the case is medically necessary. During your initial consultation, one of our orthodontists will be able to determine whether or not braces are necessary for you or your dependents. For the most cost savings, check your plan to see if orthodontia is covered and check your FSA acceptable cost list.

Braces and clear aligner treatments are eligible for reimbursement with flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), health reimbursement accounts (HRA), and limited care flexible spending accounts (LCFSA). They are not eligible for reimbursement with dependent care flexible spending accounts.
